Rooney Anand's RedCat Pub Company has acquired the 18-strong Coaching Inn Group for an undisclosed sum.

The business will continue to be led by founder Kevin Charity and finance officer Edward Walsh, and with the support of RedCat will look to build the scale and momentum of its expansion in the UK.

The Coaching Inn Group launched in 1996 and has sites located across England and Wales, including in Yorkshire, the Cotswolds, Cambridge and the Peak District.

“I’m delighted that The Coaching Inn Group is becoming part of RedCat," says Anand.

"It’s a business I’ve long admired and Kevin Charity is a class act.

"I look forward to building our pub hotels business and building our business together.”

RedCat said the acquisition would give it a strong position within the UK pub hotels sector, and follows news of its purchase of The New Dungeon Ghyll pub hotel in the Lake District, last week, for an undisclosed sum.

The group, which was formed earlier this year, has said its objective is to partner with talented licensees, publicans and entrepreneurs to support the recovery of the pub sector.

It secured its first acquisition back in March when it bought 42 pub sites from Yates's and Slug & Lettuce operator Stonegate.

This came after Anand, who was previously chief executive at Greene King, raised £200m from US investment fund Oaktree Capital to invest in Britain’s pub industry, betting on the prospects of a post-pandemic recovery for the sector.
