Japan Centre is to launch a new central London ramen restaurant early next month close to its flagship food hall and retail destination on Panton Street, next to Leicester Square.

Following on from the launch of Heddon Yokocho last year in Mayfair, the 120-cover Panton Yokocho will 'be a celebration of regional ramen from the cold island of northern Japan to the tropical climate of the south'.

Serving a similar menu to the Heddon Street branch, the new restaurant will take its design cues from the 1970s-era ‘yokocho’ alleyways of Japan and feature imitation yatai stall dining areas; hanging lanterns and retro lights; vintage posters; noren curtains; manga masks; and a 'theatrical' open kitchen.

A range of udon and soba noodle dishes will be added to the menu, including a prawn tempura with noodles, wakame seaweed, spring onion and kamaboko fish cake; sukiyaki beef; and grated Japanese yam, creamy yolk egg and kizami nori seaweed.

The ramen selection will include tonkotsu; Sapporo miso, a miso-based chicken and pork broth ramen; and Hakodate shio, a salt and miso-based broth ramen.

As at Heddon Yokocho, Panton Yokocho's signature ramen will be The Yokocho, a soy based chicken and pork broth ramen with slices of barbecue pork and topped with menma bamboo shoots, naruto fish cake, whole nitamago egg and nori seaweed.

A selection of karaage, buns, gyoza, and maki roll sushi will also feature.

The drinks list will feature a range of highballs, Japanese draft beer, a selection of chu-hi - Japanese alcoholic drinks traditionally made with shochu, and flavoured with lemon - and sake.
