D&D London is to continue with its paid summer school training programme, which aims to secure employment for people looking to enter hospitality but have little or no previous experience.

It follows the 'resounding success' of its inaugural session earlier this month, which saw 32 of the 37 participants offered roles in back of house, front of house and bar positions in D&D restaurants including Launceston Place, 100 Wardour Street and 14 Hills.

The second school will take place 3 August at D&D’s 100 Wardour Street and, like the first, will focus on three main aspects of restaurants: front of house, back of house and bar. The attendees will be divided into these groups and trained for the roles of commis waiter, commis chef and bar-back.

All learners will receive an introduction to hospitality, to D&D as a brand, as well as training for mock interviews and CV feedback to increase their chances of employability as they develop their careers.

The training week concludes with a graduation ceremony attended by D&D founders Des Gunewardena and David Loewi.

"Hospitality is all about people - the right people in the right place, building their skills and helping them to achieve their ambitions," says Loewi.

"Our new Summer School is working to deliver this."

The summer school is described as 'one of a number of initiatives D&D is implementing to attract staff'. Like many others, the group has struggled to secure enough staff as restaurants have got busier since April reopening.
