Kutir chef-patron Rohit Ghai to open Indian restaurant Manthan on Mayfair's Maddox Street this summer
Kutir chef-patron Rohit Ghai is to open a restaurant on Mayfair's Maddox Street this summer.

Called Manthan, the restaurant will have a focus on sharing plates and cocktails with Ghai drawing on his childhood in Madhya Pradesh, India, as well as time spent working in some of London's finest Indian restaurants – including Jamavar where he was awarded a Michelin star in under a year to create a menu that blends home-style cooking and with more cheffy techniques.

Dishes on the menu will include Sarson chicken chop with mustard, kachumber salad and mint chutney; goat shami kebab in bone marrow sauce, and Ghai's signature ghati masala prawns with peanut, sesame seed and fresh coconut.

There will also be an extensive selection of vegetarian dishes, with nearly half of the small plates entirely meat-free. These will include a modern take on street-food favourite ram ladoo (mong daal fritters) with mooli, yellow lentil and pomegranate; pyaz khachori (onions, mix bean sprouts and sweet and sour saunth chutney), and a Burford Brown egg curry with paratha.

Manthan's cocktail menu has been compiled by co-founder and front of house Abhi Sangwan, formerly of Trishna and Bombay Bustle. Drinks will be inspired by, and named after, the seven oceans of the world and the myths that surround them.

"After a difficult time, we are so appreciative and humbled to be launching a new restaurant in the part of London where we have such great memories," says Ghai. "We look forward to welcoming regular and new guests and giving them a memorable experience."

Ghai opened Kutir in 2018 with business partner Sangwan in a Chelsea townhouse that was once home to Vineet Bhatia's Rasoi. Earlier this month it was announced that the chef has partnered with Qatar-based hospitality group Fork & Knife to head up Indian fine dining restaurant IKSHA 360 in Doha, although he will remain based in London.
