Amsterdam-based restaurant group The Seafood Bar will make its London debut later this summer with the opening of a fish restaurant on Soho’s Dean Street.

The London The Seafood Bar will be set in a 1730 Grade II listed Georgian townhouse and will be the group’s fifth restaurants and its first venture outside the Netherlands.

Spanning two floors the restaurant will have 190 covers and follow the same neutral colour palette of the Dutch venues with white marble fixtures throughout. The main dining room will feature an open and have a downstairs seafood bar that will pivot to a cocktail bar in the evenings.

The restaurant is said to follow a ‘lekkerbek’ philosophy (what might seem simple on the outside, is complicated on the inside), with dishes on the menu to include fruits de mer platters, oysters, and a mixed grill of crustaceans and fish cooked on a plancha.

The Seafood Bar is run by the Visscher family and was founded by Helmond-based fishmonger Fons de Visscher in 2012 in Amsterdam’s Oud Zuid neighbourhood. He works alongside his son and daughter, Pepijn and Fleur who oversee the group's three Amsterdam restaurants as well as a one based in Utrecht.

“It’s our dream to bring our guests incredible seafood, and we are living that dream. We fell in love with London a long time ago, and we’re very excited we’ve finally arrived,” say the founders.

The restaurants all take a sustainable approach to minimise their environmental impact and all run on wind energy. The group also has a zero waste policy that means that no fish goes to waste.

The Seafood Bar Soho is due to open in London in August.
