Sadiq Khan launches 'London Eats' campaign
Part of the Mayor’s 'Let’s Do London' initiative to encourage people to return to the capital, the 'London Eats' campaign will bring together some of the capital’s most famous chefs, hospitality venues and food lovers to share their favourite restaurants and bars they’re excited to get back to as the sector reopens for indoor service following yesterday's (17 May) easing of restrictions.
Khan launched the campaign in Chinatown yesterday with chefs Angela Hartnett and Monica Galetti.
Darjeeling Express chef patron Asma Khan and maître d'hôtel and First Dates star Fred Sirieix are among the hospitality professionals highlighting their favourite places to eat in the capital.
'Surprise' tannoy announcements across central London’s Tube network will feature food lovers including singer Jessie Ware, former football manager Harry Redknapp, and Drag Race UK star Bimini Bon Boulash sharing their favourite food hotspots.
London Eats will also be highlighting the huge variety of different food and drink events coming to the capital in the coming months including the opening of Borough Market on Sundays for the first time in its history; the return of the Southbank Centre’s food market; the reopening of KERB Seven Dials Market; a three-week rosé wine festival coming to Covent Garden; and the opening of Imad’s Syrian Kitchen on Kingly Court in London's Soho.
“I’m proud to be launching London Eats as part of my Let’s Do London campaign," says Khan.
“The hospitality sector has been one of the hardest hit by the impact of the pandemic with too many jobs lost and under threat. As the Government continues with the roadmap and more businesses are able to open up, we are joining with famous chefs, foodies and hospitality venues to celebrate our city’s world-renowned industry.
"Together we will be sharing our favourite places to eat and drink in London and highlighting the huge range of exciting events and openings that will be taking place this summer.
“There is no doubt that our capital has the greatest food and drink offer in the world, and I’m proud to be getting the message out to Londoners and people across the country that the capital is ready and waiting to welcome you safely once again.”
