Recruitment across the hospitality sector has grown by 39% in the last month as the sector prepares for reopening, according to data from job search engine Adzuna.

The figures show that there are more than 18,000 catering and hospitality jobs currently being advertised in the UK.

Hiring activity is up 157% on June last year, when recruitment dropped to its lowest point of the pandemic with just 7,000 jobs in the sector were being advertised.

The numbers support research revealed in CGA’s latest Business Leaders Survey, which showed that three quarters of business leaders will be looking to recruit new staff members and grow their teams in 2021.

While brands including Domino's, Just Eat & Pizza Hut continue to dominate hiring in the sector, Travelodge, Marriott and Whitbread have grown their recruitment efforts fast in recent weeks.

According to Adzuna, collectively they are now advertising for over 500 open roles across the country.

The south west of England has seen the biggest short-term uptick in hospitality hiring across Britain.

All the data points towards tourists hot spots preparing for a huge swell in domestic holidays and staycations over the summer months.

"It's extremely encouraging to see recruitment in the hospitality industry coming back to life," says Andrew Hunter, co-founder of Adzuna.

"We are just a few short weeks away from hotels, pubs and restaurants opening their doors again, and the industry is clearly preparing for this with a big hiring effort.

"Many Brits will choose to remain in the U.K this summer for their holidays, and this will almost certainly have a positive, knock-on effect for job creation across the industry."

The impact of the pandemic has had a devastating impact on job figures in hospitality.

Research from Fourth published earlier this year revealed that there were 660,000 job losses across the sector over the course of the 2020.
