Oakman Inns has added a freehold site in Harpenden to its 2021 pipeline following an ‘excellent’ response to its recent equity fund raise.

The Hertfordshire pub will join sites in Buckingham, Wokingham and Epsom that have already been acquired by the currently 28-strong home counties-focused pub group.

Oakman Inns says it is also in negotiations for a number of other sites as it looks to ‘proactively sow the seeds of recovery’.

“We believe that there is a huge unsatisfied consumer demand for premium public houses right across the UK,” says founder and executive chairman Peter Borg-Neal.

“Large pubs with a strong all day food offer, a high level of amenity and, most importantly, great people running them is the future of the pub market. We want to play a big part in fulfilling that demand.”

Following a pre-Christmas equity fund raise Oakman Inns has received applications for over £3.6m of shares and is ‘quietly confident’ that it will reach its target of £4.5m.

CEO Dermot King us bullish about the prospects of the business when pubs are allowed to re-open following a record quarter during the time the business was able to trade during 2020.

“Reopening will, of course, be a challenge but the fantastic teams that delivered that performance are still with us and are raring to go again. We will open all our pubs on the very first day we are allowed to do so, and we expect to trade very strongly from day one.”

“During lockdown we have worked hard to keep our people engaged and we have also developed some exciting new products that will add to our forward momentum.”
