The pair, with the help of hot sauce brand Tabasco, have combined to create a limited-edition bake-at-home pie. Called the Match Day Special, the partnership has been formed to bring the half-time pie - one of Britain’s most beloved stadium foods - to homes around the UK.
The suet pie’s filling is a twist on the OG Black Axe Mangal dish the Bakken Special and is made with ox cheeks from butcher HG Walter as well as braised peppers, chickpeas and onions and Tabasco chipotle sauce.
Each pie kit also comes with a side of Tabasco sauce spiced pickled red cabbage and sumac onions and a pot of yoghurt.
Pie kits cost £9.99, including free nationwide delivery, with £1 from each sale donated to industry charity Hospitality Action.
The collaboration follows a nationwide survey by Tabasco to discover what sports fans across the UK have been missing most about live sports while they have been locked out of stadiums for much of 2020. The research found that as well as the sports contest itself, 70% of fans are longing to get back to their match day rituals.
Nearly a third of those polled (31%) said they missed a pre-kick-off pint with friends, while 16% said they felt nostalgic about queuing for a pie at half-time.
A further 27% said they missed eating a pie or burger at the stadium on match day.
A limited number of pie kits are available to order nationwide from today (7 December) from Willy’s Pies website and from food delivery service Big Night, with further kits going on sale on Monday 14 December and Monday 11 January.
