The UK's first pop-themed crazy golf concept is opening in Boxpark London early next year.

Called Pop Golf, it will launch in February 2021 at Boxpark Wembley as part of Boxpark's strategy to make entertainment a bigger part of its offer.

The £1m project from entertainment group The Purists of Play is said to offer a 'completely unique social experience for crazy golfers and pop music fans'.

It will feature a nine-hole pop-themed course featuring 80s boomboxes and suspended cassette tapes, with each hole designed to reflect the aesthetics of pop videos.

The launch will see Pop Golf compete against crazy golf and hospitality brand Swingers, which operates two London venues in The City and the West End, and Puttshack, which has three venues – in Lakeside, White City and Bank.

Competitive socialising has been a growing category in the UK, with other brands in the sector including Bounce and Flight Club, which has a presence across the country.

Boxpark Wembley is the largest venue in the Boxpark group, which also operates London sites in Croydon and Shoreditch. Pop Golf will join food and drink traders at the site including The Athenian, Hola Guacamole, Drus & Flats, Longboys, Spice Shack and Thai Express UK.

Earlier this year Boxpark said it was looking to create two new offshoot concepts including BoxHall, which would feature a Boxpark street food and bar area as well as a separate floor designated for operators including cinemas, crazy golf and karaoke.
