Domino’s UK & Ireland says it intends to hire an additional 5,000 staff following a surge in demand during the Coronavirus crisis.

The pizza delivery company has reported an increase in like-for-like sales of 4.8% for first the half year to 28 June 2020 and says its ability to remain open during lockdown has meant it is now looking to start a recruitment drive to help it during the busy festive period.

It says it is looking to create an extra 5,000 jobs, which will include pizza chefs, customer service workers and delivery driver positions. The group will also create 1,000 apprenticeships under the government’s new £2bn Kickstart scheme, aimed at giving disadvantaged young people start a career post-pandemic.

The new jobs are in addition to the 6,000 new roles the business is said to have already created during the Coronavirus crisis, an increase driven by franchisees that have continued to open more sites.

“It was a privilege to keep our stores open during Covid-19 and to now be in a position to offer thousands more people the opportunity to become a Domino’s team member,” says CEO Dominic Paul.

“We’re also delighted to have applied to support the Government’s Kickstart scheme, offering young people the chance to get back into work and to build lifelong skills through our training programmes.

“Together, these over 5,000 new roles will help Domino’s continue to safely serve our local communities as we head towards the busy festive period.”
