Noble Rot Soho to open on 18 September with Alex Jackson as head chef
The duo behind award-winning Noble Rot bar and restaurant in London’s Bloomsbury and also Noble Rot magazine and Keeling Andrew & Co wine importers describe their new venture, which will open on the Gay Hussar restaurant site in Soho, as ‘the difficult second album’
Noble Rot Soho’s first-floor dining room will feature triptychs from cartoonist Martin Rowson celebrating the restaurant’s characters past and present - the restaurant was a regular haunt of politician and was reportedly where the downfall of Magaret Thatcher was plotted.
The menu will be overseen by head chef Alex Jackson, most recently of east London restaurant Sardine, and executive chef Stephen Harris of The Sportsman in Seasalter. It will include subtle references to The Gay Hussar’s past with dishes such as eggs Casino, cabbage stuffed with game and sour cream; and a daily goulash, alongside Robert Carrier’s pâte aux herbes and a whole roast chicken with morels and Vin Jaune to share for two.
The wine list will bring to Soho more of what made Noble Rot Lamb’s Conduit St ‘Wine List of the Year’ at the National Restaurant Awards for three consecutive years, according to the duo. It will feature wines including its house vinho verde ‘Chin Chin’ at £3 per glass and more rare wines of Ulysse Collin, Frederic Mugnier, Emidio Pepe, Auguste Clape and Jean-Marc Roulot.
Noble Rot Bloomsbury is currently ranked at number 28 in the list of the UK's Top 100 Restaurants.
“It gives us jeroboams of pleasure to announce that Noble Rot Soho will open in the site of the historic Gay Hussar at dinnertime on Friday 18 September,” say the pair.
