More than a third of people will dine out less often in September once the government’s Eat Out to Help Out (EOHO) scheme has ended, according to the latest findings from a YouGov poll.

The research, conducted to discover into the impact of EOHO, found that of those who dined out using the scheme, more than a third will dine out less than they did before once the scheme ends (36%).

However, the results also show that nearly half of people questions (46%) say they will dine out the same amount - with a further 4% saying they will dine out more than they did.

Just 7% of respondents said they will not dine out at all next month.

Of those who used the government discount scheme, 77% said they would support the government extending the scheme across the whole of September as well, with only 14% opposing the suggestion.

In total, it found 17% of consumers used the scheme once, 10% twice, and 8% three times.

“As the scheme draws to a close, many businesses will be wondering if the high number of bookings they’ve enjoyed will continue after August,” says YouGov research manager Matt Smith.

“Many businesses have been vocal about the need to extend the scheme to the whole of September.

Currently, support for an extension stands at six in 10 Brits, rising to over three quarters for those who have used the scheme. Even those who have not used the scheme support the extension by 43% to 28%.”

The survey questioned 1,629 adults aged between 18-65, across the whole of the UK between 24 and 25 August.
