Bodega Rita's to close King's Cross sandwich shop
In an Instagram post confirming the closure, founders Missy Flynn and Gabe Pryce wrote: "We've always had big plans for Bodega Rita's, despite the first shop being a bonkers tiny 198sq ft unit with limited power.
"After having had some great times here on Lower Stable Street it has become impossible for us to continue safely towards our long term goals with new trade restrictions in place.
"The decision has been made with the support of our Kings Cross landlord to terminate our lease early, which means Bodega Rita’s will not be reopening on Lower Stable Street."
Occupying a small space with room for only a handful of covers, Flynn and Pryce launched Bodega Rita's in December 2018 following a number of pop ups and residencies.
The pair had previously owned American/Mexican junk food and cocktail restaurant Rita's in Hackney, which closed its bricks-and-mortar site back in 2016 but continues to operate as a catering service.
In their Instagram statement, Flynn and Pryce added: "We can’t thank everyone enough for embracing this bustling little space and we are so proud of the food and drink we have put out over the past 18 months.
Our shop in King's Cross has been a great place to incubate ideas and work with incredible people and suppliers, including The Dusty Knuckle Bakery and Celtic Bakers who are literally, the bread to our butter.
"We also have to shout out our teams past and present; you guys smashed it.
"We look forward to feeding you again very soon."
