50 Best restaurant and bar grants still available
Venues from any corner of the world can apply for grants of up to $5,000 even if temporarily shuttered.
Restaurants can view the criteria and apply here and bars can view the criteria and apply here. Businesses must have been trading since 1 January 2019 and can‘t be part of a multi-site chain.
The World’s 50 Best Recovery CIC will publish a list of all grant awardees on its website by September 2020, so applicants must be willing to agree to their restaurant’s name being made public in association with the 50 Best Recovery Fund grant scheme.
Funds were raised via the 50 Best ‘Bid for Recovery’ auction of gastronomic experiences and rare items, proceeds from sales of the Home Comforts e-cookbook – available for a minimum $10/£8 donation here – and the contributions of 50 Best’s sponsor partners.
Auction lots included a day with chef Mauro Colagreco, whose restaurant Mirazur in France topped the World's 50 Best list last year; a two-day 'experience' in San Francisco hosted by Atelier Crenn and Petit Crenn chef patron Dominique Crenn; and a four-day tour of Singapore's thriving restaurant scene, including dinner at two-time Best Restaurant in Asia winner, Odette.
“Let’s be clear: we all need help, of one sort or another, in times of crisis. The circumstances that the hospitality sector finds itself in as a by-product of the pandemic amounts to an existential threat, so applying for any assistance that helps the recovery process is to be encouraged,” says 50 Best director of content William Drew.
“The aim is to provide support for restaurants and bars of all types and styles in their efforts to move towards a vibrant future where they can showcase their skill, inventiveness and hospitality, creating positive moment and memories for diners and drinkers in the process.”
50 Best will also be making additional donations to number of non-profit organisations around the world that are working to support restaurants and bars at this time; and has also joined forces with the Social Gastronomy Movement, a global network of charitable organisations across 38 different countries, which is campaigning to provide one million meals to those most in need
