Rick Stein Group's Marlborough restaurant saved from closure
After the restaurant group announced last month that it would have to surrender the lease of the Marlborough building that it had taken on in 2016, the landlord was said to be 'devastated' and chose to offer a lifeline to the business.
In order to help save the restaurant from closure, the landlord has written off some of the arrears accumulated during the lockdown, and cut the rent by nearly a quarter.
As a result the restaurant will now reopen permanently, although it is yet to be confirmed when that will be.
All 39 of the restaurant's staff have been invited to return to their jobs, with 25 so far confirming their intention to come back.
“I’m delighted that our landlord in Marlborough made such a generous offer," says Stein.
"I had resigned myself to losing the restaurant and our wonderful team and I am so pleased that we can reopen.”
Rick Stein's eponymous restaurant in Marlborough was one of two sites owned by the group set to remain closed permanently post lockdown.
The other, located in Porthleven, Cornwall, has since been acquired by chef Michael Caines.
The rest of the Rick Stein Group estate, which includes its flagship The Seafood Restaurant in Padstow, as well as restaurants in Barnes, Sandbanks, Winchester and Falmouth, all reopened on 4 July, following the easing of Coronavirus lockdown restrictions.
