Benares team launch The Indian Alley at Camden Market
The team behind top-end Mayfair Indian restaurant Benares will launch an Indian street food restaurant at Camden Market early next month.

The Indian Alley will be led by Benares executive chef Sameer Taneja and will trade from a Grade I-listed 2,250 sq ft building.

In common with a number of other recent restaurant projects including Brighton’s Shelter Hall, the team plan to launch the venue as a stripped-back affair designed for post-lockdown trading before closing and re-opening with a more complete design in 2021.

“We are thrilled to be opening The Indian Alley at Camden Market. Our mission has always been to remain unique by changing the way people perceive and experience Indian cuisine and broadening our business by opening in Camden supports our goal,” says Taneja, who trained at The Oberoi Group in Delhi before heading to the UK to cook at The Waterside Inn and Pierre Koffmann’s restaurant at The Berkeley Hotel before heading the kitchens at a number of high-reaching Indian restaurants.

“This area of North London has always appealed to us because of the diverse food and beverage brands on offer in the market. We are confident our restaurant will complement the offering here and look forward to welcoming our first visitors in this part of London.”

The north London market’s owner LabTech has also signed plant-based sustainable burger chain, Neat Burger, and Spanish inspired creperie, Prep’ La Crepe.

“Since reopening Camden Market have continued to support all our traders. Now we are fully reopen and serving our local community again, footfall is growing and this is the ideal time to be adding these three independent food and beverage brands," says LabTech’s

"The Indian Alley, Neat Burger and Prep’ La Crepe all have something distinctive to bring and we are excited to welcome them all to our thriving market in North London.”
