Pret A Manger is to introduce vegan bakery counters across all 10 of its Veggie Pret sites from tomorrow (21 July).

The ‘Veggie Pret’s Vegan Bakery’ range will see eight new vegan products added to the Veggie Pret menu, to be sold alongside the two existing vegan bakery items – the very berry croissant, and the dark chocolate and almond butter cookie.

New items will include three types of vegan croissant; two vegan brownies; and three vegan muffins.

The range will be available both to purchase in-store, and via delivery with Deliveroo, Just Eat and Uber Eats.

“We’re really proud to be the first high street food-to-go retailer to launch a unique concept like this,” says Clare Clough, managing director of Pret UK.

“Expanding Veggie Pret’s offering for our vegan customers has been a huge focus of our food development over the last year and moving to an entire vegan bakery is very much the result of that.

“Our previous vegan bakery products, like the dark chocolate & almond butter cookie and the very berry croissant have always been big hits with customers, vegan and non-vegan alike.

“In the first few weeks of the very berry croissant being on sale, it sold more than double the amount per day of the non-vegan jam croissant it replaced, so we can’t wait to hear what our customers think of these new treats.”

The introduction of the new vegan offering comes after Pret recently announced it was focusing on adapting its offering to suit the new post-lockdown operating environment.

Earlier this month the business begun trialling an evening delivery menu from a handful of its London sites including Dalston, Notting Hill Gate and Tooting Broadway.

New dishes include a chipotle chicken burrito bowl; a chicken and bacon Caesar bowl; and a falafel and humous rice bowl.

Pret also recently trialled a click-and-collect service for the first time across five of its reopened London stores.

The business is currently undergoing a restructuring, having seen its sales plummet as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic.

It was announced earlier this month that 30 Pret sites would close; and at least 1,000 jobs could be at risk, with a reduced workforce planned across the estate to 'reflect lower footfall, rental costs and new safety measures'.
