Launching on Thursday (16 July), Turnips with Tomas Lidakevicius has been designed to join the disconnect between quality produce and the restaurant experience.
Small plates and cocktails will be served in the space where Turnips normally trades, while a five-course tasting menu for £65 per person will be offered under the arches, with Lidakevicius cooking from a shipping container converted kitchen.
Example dishes include Yorkshire beans and peas, 48-hour short rib; and Torpedo watermelon, galangal, lemongrass from the tasting menu; and sweet ’n’ sour Brittany cauliflower, sesame seeds; sweet potato and lentil croquettes; Provence tomato bruschetta, cavolo nero pesto; and fish balls, Sicilian pepper sauce from the more informal menu.
The accompanying wine list will centre on English varieties, only extending to encompass a few French names where there isn’t a UK equivalent.
Turnips was founded by Fred and Caroline Foster in the 1980s and is now run by Charlie and Frederica Foster.
“The juxtaposition between fine dining and buzzy market atmosphere is second to none and we’re so excited to be working with Tomas,” says Charlie.
“The meal I had at City Social when Tomas was in the kitchen, was one of the best I’ve ever had and he completely shares our vision of joining the disconnect between market produce and restaurant food.”
It will be open Thursday to Saturday from 7pm-10pm and Sunday 2.30pm-8pm.
