Pret trials click and collect

Pret A Manger is to trial a click and collect service for the first time across five of its reopened London stores, with evening delivery options also on the cards.

Available exclusively via the Deliveroo app, the service will allow customers to make orders and pay remotely; and on arrival collect their order from a designated point in the shop, without having to queue up first.

Pret says it is currently testing different pick-up points across its trial sites; they include a ‘hatch’ system, which would allow customers to collect their orders without needing to enter the store.

After the initial trial, Pret aims to extend the click and collect service to more shops over the coming months.

As part of wider efforts to adapt to the new operating environment, the company is also exploring new recipes for evening delivery that it plans to trial in a limited number of stores next month.

"As more of our customers change their daily routines, we’ve been looking at how Pret can meet their needs," says Alex Chisholm, digital transformation director at Pret.

"Click and collect is a great way of offering a fast, contact-free service for our freshly made food and we look forward to making it available to more customers in the coming months."

Pret has so far reopened more than 300 sites in its c.500-strong UK estate, having closed them all back in March in-line with the Government-mandated shutdown of the hospitality sector.

The business is also currently working to create a 'comprehensive transformation plan' for the business, in order to ensure it remains sustainable as it works to recover following the Coronavirus lockdown.
