Vegan pizza brand Purezza says that despite the unforeseen challenges of the Coronavirus pandemic, the company is still on track to expand its estate this year.

The group, which currently operates a site in Brighton and another in London’s Camden, is currently preparing to open a third location in August, taking over the former Patisserie Valerie site near Palmeira Square in Hove.

It says the hope is that the new opening will help 'ease this pressure' off the group's popular flagship restaurant in Brighton's Kemptown.

Purezza serves a fully vegan menu of sourdough pizzas made with plant-based mozzarella that’s produced in-house.

Signature pizzas include ‘Parmigiana Party’ topped with smoked mozzarella, aubergine parmigiana, crumbled vegan sausage; and a dusting of nutritional yeast; and an ‘nduja’ one with mozzarella, green chillies, roasted aubergines, baby sweetcorn, red peppers, sriracha sauce and chilli flakes.

Back in February, Purezza told BigHospitality that it was planning to open as many as four pizzerias this year, and co-founder Tim Barclay suggests those openings are still in the works, despite the current uncertainty faced by the industry as a result of the Coronavirus crisis.

“2020 was always set to be a big year for Purezza, and whilst the Coronavirus crisis was an unforeseen challenge, it won't affect our plans," he says.

"Purezza is a growing brand, but our home has always been Brighton and Hove.

"Before looking at national expansion, we’re proud to be able to give some of our most dedicated customers a brand new beautiful space in Hove to enjoy.”

While news of any further openings is yet to be confirmed, the group has previously suggested that, as well as more regional outposts, it will be looking to grow its presence in London.

Purezza opened its debut site in Brighton in November 2015, which it claims to be the first vegan pizzeria in the UK.

It originally opened its second site, in Camden, in February 2018, before subsequently relaunching it earlier this year after tripling the size of the dining room.
