Corbin & King launches delivery service to help top-up staff wages

London-based restaurant group Corbin & King has launched a home dining offer as a way to raise further funds to top up the wages of furloughed staff.

The group, which is led by veteran restaurateurs Chris Corbin and Jeremy King, will give 100% of the profits from the delivery service directly its team members to assist with topping up their wages while restaurants remain closed.

Centralising the operation from the group's Covent Garden restaurant The Delaunay, the delivery service offers a range of signature dishes from across the Corbin & King portfolio.

They include Soutine's coq au riesling; The Wolseley's wiener schnitzel; Colbert's duck confit with bean cassoulet; and The Delaunay's mushroom stroganoff.

Side dishes and desserts will also be available to order; alongside a selection of red and whites wines by the bottle.

The minimum order spend is £40, and is available for delivery within four miles of The Delaunay.

Corbin & King previously launched a gift voucher appeal to help raise funds for its staff, with King saying in an email last month that the support and generosity of customers meant the company would be able to top up the salaries for furloughed staff in May to the 80% they would receive if tronc had been included under the scheme.

The Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme (JRS) currently allows employers to claim 80% of an employee's wages up to £2,500, but does not allow for the inclusion of tronc, which can make up a significant chunk of a hospitality worker's monthly salary.

King had previously said that the Government’s decision to omit tronc payments from the JRS meant some staff were only receiving 40% of their usual monthly earnings while furloughed.
