McDonald’s has announced plans is to relaunch its in-store takeaway and click-and-collect offering from next week.

From Wednesday 17 June, the fast food giant will reopen 11 of its Roadchef restaurants or walk-in takeaway for motorway users.

This will then roll out to high street, town and city centre locations from 24 June.

“As one of McDonald’s leading operators, we are delighted to have been asked to be the first to reopen 10 of our walk-in restaurants, as one of our most popular and great value food brands," says Mark Fox, CEO of Roadchef.

"This is an exciting step forward as we start to bring back the choice and brands that visitors love. We are working closely with the McDonald’s team to ensure we deliver our usual high standard of service while our teams and customers are kept safe."

On top of those safety systems already implemented at its reopened drive-thru and delivery restaurants, all sites offering takeaway will introduce a number of measures to ensure a 'Covid-secure environment'.

Signposting and floor markings will be used to create a one-way system for customers and delivery drivers, and each restaurant will operate on a maximum capacity rule.

Sanitation will be also increased, with order screens cleaned every 30 minutes and customers asked to sanitise their hands upon entry.

All seating areas, toilets and children’s play areas will remain closed for the time being.

In the past few weeks McDonald's has successfully managed to reopen more than 1,000 restaurants in its UK estate, including all drive-thru locations.

Initially only a select number of reopened sites offered delivery, however from today (10 June), the chain will also be relaunching this service from a further 570 reopened sites across the UK and Ireland.

Alongside the move, McDonald's adds that it will also relaunch its breakfast menu from the 24 June in a small number of restaurants, with plans to reintroduce the offer across the rest of its estate in July.
