Pizza Express has taken another tentative step towards reopening its restaurant estate by adding an option to click and collect pizzas from the 13 sites in London that is has already opened for delivery.

Click and collect will only be available via the Pizza Express website.

Safety measures have already been introduced at restaurants including social distancing, protective screens and additional cleaning.

The company initially opened 13 of its pizzerias for delivery in the capital via Deliveroo, in locations including Balham, Belsize Park, Camden, Chiswick, Croydon, Dulwich, Ealing, Greenwich and Shepherds Bush. The restaurants are running a reduced menu to help its teams adhere to the social distancing guidance. However, the company says it is working on how it can offer a full menu including vegan and gluten-free products in the near future.

The company is also looking to increase the number of restaurants it can reopen for both services. “Once we are happy we can create a safe working environment for our passionate pizzaiolos and teams, we will consider our plans for a further rollout in our mission to reunite you with your local pizzeria,” it says.

“Our number one priority is to protect the safety and wellbeing of our teams and customers,” says managing director Zoe Bowley.

“Having undertaken a successful delivery-only trial in 13 of our restaurants, we’re pleased to be rolling this out further to click-and-collect customers in the same 13 restaurants for the time being.

“By launching the next stage of our trial, we hope to gradually and safely begin to bring the Pizza Express experience back to the UK.”
