A restaurant once rated the best in the world has announced plans reopen as a burger and wine bar.

Rene Redzepi’s two Michelin-starred Copenhagen restaurant Noma, which was named the World’s Best Restaurant in 2010,  2011, 2012 and 2014, will come out of lockdown next week as a wine bar – albeit as a temporary measure.

It follows the further easement of Denmark’s Coronavirus lockdown, which was initially brought in during early March.

The famed destination restaurant, whose tasting menu prices usually hover just above the £300 mark, was forced to temporarily close its doors as a result of the lockdown, but has now set out a two-step reopening plan in a newsletter to customer.

Noma’s first step will see it temporarily reopen as an outdoor burger and wine bar next Thursday (21 May).

Two burgers will feature on the menu: ‘the Noma cheeseburger’, and ‘the Noma veggie burger’.

The cheeseburger, described as being “packed with umami”, will reportedly feature dry-aged bavette steak, beef garum, cheddar cheese, sliced red onion, and a house-made mayonnaise with pickles, served in a potato bun developed by hamburger restaurant Gasoline Grill.

There will be no reservations, and the bar will only be open during the afternoons and evenings between Thursday and Sunday.

The opening will give the team time to prepare for the official reopening of Noma in the near future, says the restaurant.

“In order to open Noma, the restaurant as we know it, we will need some extra time to get the machine up and running again,” reads the newsletter.

“Being closed for so long means that it will take weeks for our team to get the kitchen back to the levels we were at before closing,”

“We do not yet have an official opening date for the restaurant to share, but we will have more information on this very soon.”
