Pubco and brewer Greene King is to launch a ‘pub grub’ delivery and takeaway service from a select number of its London sites next week.

The group, which has more than 3,100 pubs, restaurants and hotels across the UK, will be reopening 29 sites in the capital from 22 May.

All of the reopened pubs will offer delivery through Deliveroo, with ten also operating a click and collect service.

Like many operators, Greene King had to shut its entire estate back in March as a result of the Coronavirus outbreak.

Throughout the lockdown, the pubco has continued to sell bottled beers, cider and wine through its online shop, but the latest move will allow consumers to order a selection of Greene King dishes including burgers, beer-battered fish and chips, and roast dinners.

The pubco says there will be strict guidelines in place to ensure the health and safety of staff, delivery riders, and customers. Measures being put in place include social distancing, the availability of PPE, and a one-way system for customers to collect orders.

Earlier this month Greene King also set up an employee support fund to help its workers that had been affected by the Coronavirus crisis.

The ‘Team Member Support Fund’, which was launched in partnership with the Licensed Trade Charity, was been set up with an initial donation of £300,000 from Greene King that was raised from a combination of senior team salary cuts and a company donation.
