Five Guys reopens eight more UK sites
Restaurants in Cambridge, Norwich, Colchester, Chelmsford, Reading, York, and London’s Kensington all reopened yesterday (28 April), with another site in Southampton due to open today (29 April).
It comes a week after the US burger chain reopened its first six sites following the Coronavirus shutdown, having initially kept 13 open for delivery and takeaway when the lockdown was announced
UK CEO John Eckbert has said the company is adopting a ‘phased approach’ to reopening Five Guys stores, and adhering to government advice to ensure the safety of its customers and crew
All reopened Five Guys restaurants are offering a full menu, which is available via delivery or click and collect.
Click and collect orders will all be prepaid, with the restaurants operating strict social distancing policies for those popping in to pick up their order.
It comes as more restaurant operators in the UK begin to test the waters of pivoting towards a takeaway or delivery-only model while the Coronavirus crisis continues.
Earlier this week it was confirmed that Nando’s had begun trialing public delivery from select sites in London and Manchester as part of a “controlled experiment” to see how feasible it is to reopen more sites in the coming weeks.
Meanwhile McDonald’s UK CEO Paul Pomroy has said the fast food chain is carrying out its own series of behind-closed-doors tests this week, in preparation for the potential reopening some of its sites.
