Nando’s trials public delivery from select restaurant sites

All six sites had initially reopened last week​​ to exclusively cook meals for NHS workers battling against the Coronavirus, having been chosen because of their proximity to, and existing relationship with a local hospital or NHS building.

However, having been asked on its Twitter page​​ if the restaurants were now offering delivery to customers, the chicken chain confirmed they were as part of a trial with Deliveroo.

It said: "We are offering Deliveroo via seven restaurants that are currently open to support the NHS and local charities. This trial will be treated like a controlled experiment as part of our plan to reopen more restaurants as soon as it is safe to do so.”

In the capital, restaurants in Southwark, Camberwell, Canary Wharf, and Kensington have reopened. While in Manchester, sites in Fallowfield, and The Printworks are also now operating for delivery.

A further seventh site, on St Andrews Street in Dublin, Ireland, has also reopened for delivery. 

All reopened sites will operate behind closed doors, with the teams following Public Health England guidelines on top of existing health and safety procedures.

The menu has also been reduced to help staff maintain social distancing practises while on shift. 

Other operators currently working towards opening larger portions of their estate include fast food chain Burger King, and bakery chain Greggs.

Burger King is reportedly planning to reopen 10 more UK sites a week for delivery​​ as part of a lockdown exit plan.

Meanwhile, Greggs CEO Roger Whiteside has laid out a plan to have all 2,050 of the bakery chain’s UK branches open again​​ by the beginning of July.
