The fast food fried chicken brand reopened 11 sites last week with a limited menu and fewer staff members to ensure social distancing.
The restaurants open are Heaton Chapel, Tamworth, New Oscott, Manchester Hulme, Portsmouth, Bracknell, Ipswich - Cardinal Park, Glasgow - Pollokshaws Road, Glasgow - Great Western Retail Park, Enfield - Coliseum Retail Park and Manchester – Deansgate.
"They’re open for delivery only and are serving a limited menu, operated by fewer team members with new procedures in place to help ensure we’re following social distancing guidelines. There’s still a need for affordable, accessible food at this time - so we want to do our part,"says a KFC spokesperson.
“We’re looking at additional restaurants to open over the next few weeks – but if we can’t do it responsibly we won’t do it all.”
KFC UK & Ireland says returning to work is on an opt-in basis for staff, and only those who can travel to work without public transport have been asked to return.
Social distancing in restaurants includes placing tape on the floor to create designated working zones two metres apart and operating with just one person per station and fewer team members.
The limited menu prevents the need for team members to cross stations.
There are also markings on the floor for delivery drivers so they keep their distance while waiting to collect orders.
KFC donated 3,000 meals to NHS and key workers last week and has committed to provide 100 free meals from each open restaurant every Tuesday to those workers on the frontline. "We will continue to do so each week whilst the situation continues,” it says.
