Just Eat will extend the period of time during which it offers a 25% discount for NHS workers after reporting that one million meals had been ordered by NHS staff in the first two weeks of the offer.

The discount, which was introduced by the delivery aggregator to show appreciation for work of the 1.3 million NHS employees across the country, was due to end at the start of this week but has now been extended for a further two weeks until 26 April.

Since being introduced at the start of April, NHS staff have ordered over one million meals and saved a £1.5m collectively, says Just Eat.

“We are proud to be making a small difference to the individuals and families of those working for our fantastic NHS,” says Andrew Kenny, Just Eat UK managing director. “With the huge strain on our front line workers set to continue for the foreseeable future, we want to show our support to the people doing an extraordinary job of keeping this country going.”

The company says it is looking to launch a further, more longer term, NHS initiative at the end of the month, but is yet to reveal what this may be. “Over the last few weeks we’ve heard from many of our customers and hard-working restaurant partners, who want to join in the efforts of supporting those doing an heroic job right now,” adds Kenny.

“We’re working on an initiative that will enable them to do just that.”
