A group of drinks suppliers have launched an app to allow restaurants and pubs to take delivery or click and collect orders from customers.

The Local app has been developed as a partnership between Matthew Clark, Bibendum and Tennet’s lager in the UK and parent company C&C Gleesons in Ireland to help the 'survival of the on-trade'.

It is free to join with no set-up costs, but will levy a 2% transaction fee on each order.

Operators are expected to run the delivery service themselves.

“We've reacted as quickly as we could to the current situation to help every site looking to continue to safely trade," says a spokesperson for the app.

"We felt compelled to do something to support pubs, bars, restaurants and independent drinks merchants when they needed us most.

"If we can help just one business to trade through this crisis and to come out of the other side, then it will have been a success. Of course, we hope that together, we can save many.”

Users do not have to be customers of any of the suppliers to sign up.

The wholesalers have funded the development of Local and will pay the monthly fees for every site that joins.

Businesses just need a logo, menu, contact details and Stripe Connect account to sign up.
