The ‘Feed the NHS’ crowdfund campaign, which launched last Friday (27 March) and is spearheaded by actors Helen McCrory, Damian Lewis and Matt Lucas, aims to raise £1m in order to help feed NHS workers one hot healthy meal each day.
According to the campaign’s JustGiving page, the three actors have teamed up with healthy fast food brand Leon to get 6,000 meals a day into London hospitals for critical care staff.
The aim is to begin by focusing on the hardest hit hospitals in London, before taking the campaign national.
While the Coronavirus has forced all restaurants across the UK to temporarily close, some have continued to operate as takeaway/delivery services, with many offering free meals or significant discounts to NHS workers.
Other London-based restaurant groups that have pledged to join the 'Feed the NHS' campaign include Wasabi; Tortilla; Peach Pubs; Rosa’s Thai; Hop; Pizza Pilgrims; Franco Manca; Farmer J; Tossed; Haché; Abokado; Dishoom; and Nusa Kitchen.
According to The i, money raised through the funding page will go directly to NHS Trusts, who will then purchase meals - at cost - from those involved, The meals will reportedly cost between £2 and £3.
Already the campaign has raised more then £500,000. For more details on how to sign up your business or donate to the cause, click here.
