Satay Street to open permanent restaurant in Spitalfields
Satay Street Cafe will be located on Goulston Street close to Petticoat Lane Market in a site that was secured in October 2017.
The opening has been delayed following 'numerous complications' with the local council.
Owner Som Boonchan launched her first Thai street food stall in 2009 serving her satay based on a recipe passed down to her from her mother while growing up in Bangkok.
Over the past eleven years Satay Street has grown and Boonchan and her team have traded at various markets in East London including Shoreditch High Street Market, Petticoat Lane Market, Fenchurch Street Station and Old Street WeWork.
“I am delighted to finally have a permanent home for Satay Street,” says Boonchan. “ It has been an extremely difficult process due to the many complications restaurant owners face in London but one thing my mother taught me, as well as her secret satay recipe, is patience and I applied this to the opening process.
“Having patience for 11 years has proved very trying but February 21 will be a very happy day for me and I look forward to sharing our dishes to customers in a warmer and more comfortable environment.”
Satay Street Cafe will continue to serve traditional satay, alongside with an extended menu featuring dishes inspired by the street food markets of Bangkok. Highlights include som tam salads, tom yam soups and filled buns with prices ranging from £2.50 to £7.95.
The 20-cover vibrant café will offer customers a ‘lively dining experience’ with high top tables and counter dining allowing guests to watch the chefs at work in an open kitchen.
