Elizabeth Forkuoh from the Strathearn Restaurant at the Gleneagles Hotel in Scotland has been named the winner of the 2020 Gold Service Scholarship.

The FBS junior assistant manager at the prestigious Perthshire restaurant was crowned the winner last night (12 February) at a reception and presentation at The Berkeley in Knightsbridge, London.

She was one of eight front-of-house professionals to have reached the final stage of the competition, which was held at London’s Corinthia Hotel in January.

Forkuoh’s background in hospitality started at Stradey Park Hotel where she was a part-time waitress while a student.

She joined Gleneagles in 2017 as a chef de rang in the Strathearn Restaurant, progressing to head waitress in 2018, and then to her current role as FBS junior assistant manager in mid-2019.

“All eight winning finalists deserve their place, and judging at this level is so difficult when the quality is so high,” says chairman of the Judges Edward Griffiths.

This year’s Scholarship also saw a special commendation made for Lauren Frid, assistant supervisor at Bar Boulud at the Mandarin Oriental London, with the Judges noting her consistent performance throughout the competition.

“Elizabeth shone through with very rounded characteristics, and impeccable social skills. She has earned her crown as a talented Scholar, and Lauren Frid equally deserves her commendation,” adds Griffiths.

The Scholarship was launched in 2012 to encourage a lasting heritage of excellence in hospitality. The programme celebrates the craft of front of house service in food and beverage, and nurtures young talent through tailored mentoring.
