Hummus and pita bar concept Humpit is planning to open a further 30 sites across the UK and beyond in the next five years.

The expansion drive would see the vegan chain more than triple its estate.

At present Humpit operates 12 UK sites with a 13th, within The Springs retail and leisure park at Leeds’ Thorpe Park development, due to open this week.

Serving a menu of pittas and salads available to order with both falafel and hummus, the brand, which started out life as a street food vendor in Leeds back in 2014, is largely targeted at university students with sites in Manchester, Leeds, Newcastle and Edinburgh’s university union.

Last year Humpit began expanding outside of its Northern heartland for the first time, opening a highstreet location in central Brighton and two further student union sites at London’s Westminster and Royal Holloway university.

On its website, Humpit says its plans for 2020 include launching more company-owned stores in ‘key cities’, while also looking for franchise partners to grow the brand further.

It’s currently preparing to launch a flagship Manchester site close to the city’s Arndale Centre in the spring, which will ‘showcase a brand new Humpit offering’; followed by its first central London, which is expected to open later this year.

Last summer Humpit’s co-founder Jonathan Phillips also said there were plans to open the chain’s first international location this year, but further details regarding this are still unknown.
