The Pompadour restaurant in Edinburgh has closed
The Pompadour at the Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh – The Caledonian hotel shut on 26 January, almost a century after it first opened.
A statement posted across the restaurant’s social media accounts says: “Following careful consideration, we can confirm that The Pompadour will be closing its doors after Sunday 26 January 2020. We are proud of the achievements and memories our team have created over the last 95 years and would like to thank all our customers and suppliers.
“Guests with future bookings are being contacted currently, further reservation enquiries should call 0131 222 8857.”
The Caledonian Hotel dates back to 1903 and was built by the Caledonian Railway Company as part of Edinburgh Princes Street Railway Station.
It relaunched in 2012 under Hilton’s luxury Waldorf Astoria brand following a £24m refurbishment, with Galvin Restaurants overseeing both The Pompadour and the Galvin Brasserie de Luxe restaurants.
The hotel was sold to an Abu Dhabi-based investor for a reported £85m in 2018, and the Galvin’s ceased involvement with both the restaurants last year.
The Galvin Brasserie de Luxe site has since been replaced by Grazing by Mark Greenaway.
A spokesperson for Waldorf Astoria Edinburgh - The Caledonian said: “Following careful consideration, we can confirm that The Pompadour closed its doors following a final service on Sunday 26 January 2020.
"The hotel will continue to operate as usual and customers with upcoming reservations at The Pompadour have been notified directly.”
