Baba G’s, the street food trader which won an episode of the BBC's Million Pound Menu, has closed its first bricks and mortar restaurant after less than a year.

The Indian-inspired burger concept opened a 50-cover site in London’s Camden Market last May, but it shut on 19 January.

A statement posted across the restaurant’s social media accounts on 12 January said: “Just a little announcement to say that 19 Jan is our last day trading at the Baba G restaurant before we move on! We had a super time during our popup in Camden’s North Yard - thanks [to] everyone who visited and supported our first bricks and mortar site!”

The concept looks to be reopening in another location, with the restaurant tweeting: "Keep your eyes peeled for where the next project will be."

Baba G’s was founded by Liz Selway and Alec Owen and has traded in market spaces since 2008.

The team appeared on the 2019 series of Million Pound Menu where they secured a £300,000 investment from Atul Kochhar, but opened the Camden restaurant independently.

Baba G’s continues to trade from a street food stall in Camden Market, as well as at Pop Brixton, Vinegar Yard in London Bridge, and the Mercato Metropolitano food hall in Elephant and Castle.
