Monsieur Le Duck has closed its first permanent restaurant after less than a year
Gascon-inspired restaurant Monsieur Le Duck has had to close its site in London’s Clerkenwell after less than a year.

The French-focused brand, which started out life as a pop-up premises in Spitalfields, shut the doors to what was its first bricks and mortar restaurant just before Christmas.

In a statement posted on its Instagram in early December, the restaurant wrote: “It is with great sadness that we will be closing our doors on 21 December.

“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we have to leave our current site. We are busy looking for a new home.”

Monsieur Le Duck was founded by first-time restaurateur Richard Humphreys, who was inspired by the douceur de vivre of Gascony, which translates as “sweetness of living” and relates to a leisurely and rustic lifestyle.

Having launched its pop-up site in Spitalfields in November 2018, Monsieur Le Duck moved to its first permanent restaurant space in May last year.

The menu featured a variety of duck-focused dishes including confit duck croquettes with truffle mayo; a duck burger made from Barbary duck leg mince; and a sharing platter that included both confit and pan-roasted portions of duck breast alongside confit duck leg.

In July last year, Humphreys told BigHospitality’s sister site MCA that he was keen to expand the business with plans to establish at one more location in London, as well as potentially roll out the concept globally.
