Neighbourhood-style pizza chain Zia Lucia is to open its fourth London restaurant next month, in Aldgate East.

The 60-cover space will be dominated by a large hand-made pizza oven in the centre of the open kitchen, and feature both table and counter seating.

As with Zia Lucia’s other sites, the menu will feature four different pizza doughs including traditional white flour; wholemeal; vegetable and charcoal; and one made with gluten-free flour.

The Aldgate East restaurant will also have a new dough developed specifically for the new opening.

Pizza options will include the Napoli with tomato, mozzarella, anchovies and capers; the ortolana with tomato, mozzarella, courgettes, aubergines and peppers; and the spicy burrata with tomato, mozzarella, burrata and spianata salami. The menu will also feature a selection of Italian-style starters, salads and desserts including mortadella with focaccia; rocket with asparagus, tomatoes and parmigiana; and homemade tiramisu.

“We were thrilled when we found this site,” says Claudio Vescovo, who founded Zia Lucia with business partner Gianluca D’Angelo.

“It reminded us straight away of our roots, and we thought it would match perfectly with our community-style dining and moderately priced, traditional food.

“What we love about our restaurants is the vibe and the atmosphere created by all of our guests.”

Vescovo and D’Angelo opened the first Zia Lucia in Islington in 2016, and subsequently established sites in Kensington and Boxpark Wembley in 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Last year the pair also entered London’s burgeoning, accessibly-priced pasta restaurant scene with Berto, which opened next door to the original Zia Lucia restaurant on Holloway Road.
