This year’s MasterChef: The Professionals winner Stu Deeley is to open his first solo restaurant early next year, in the Jewellery Quarter of Birmingham.

Deeley saw off competition from fellow chefs Olivia Burt and Exose Grant Lopo-Ndinga to be crowned this year’s MasterChef: The Professionals winner during a tense final episode, which was broadcast last night (19 December) on BBC Two.

Earlier in the week it was reported by Birmingham Live that Deeley was planning to open his debut restaurant in the city, having recently announced that he was stepping down from his role as head chef at Modern British fine-dining restaurant The Wilderness.

It’s not yet known what the restaurant will be called, but Deeley says it will be reflective of the type of ‘Brummie fusion food’ he’ll be serving.

Dishes set to feature on the menu include pork belly with black pudding, braised fennel, fennel puree, yuzu gel and langoustine, which Deeley cooked as part of the TV competition.

"[My restaurant] will be about food that pays homage to Birmingham and its international influences, food I've cooked on MasterChef and at The Wilderness,” he says.

"[It] will look quite industrial and be reflective of Birmingham's rich history; what is was and what it is now.”

Deeley is the 13th professional chef to win the MasterChef spinoff series.

Previous winners include Roux at Parliament Square head chef Steve Groves; and Etch Brighton founder Steven Edwards.
