Former Pennyhill Park chef Matt Worswick is to take residency at The Shanghai EDITION hotel as executive chef from February next year.

He’ll be replacing Scott Melvin, who is set to leave the hotel at end of the month having been there since it launched in July 2018.

It was announced yesterday (9 December) that Worswick would be stepping down from his role as head chef of the Michelin-starred The Latymer restaurant at Pennyhill Park hotel in Surrey after nearly four years behind the stove, to be replaced by former Bohemia chef Steve Smith.

“I’m so pleased to be welcoming Matt to the team,” says Jason Atherton, whose restaurant group The Social Company currently oversees operations at three of the food and beverage locations within the 145-bedroom hotel.

“He’s a fantastic chef with a wealth of experience which will only add to the brilliant reputation The Shanghai EDITION has acquired since opening.”

In his role, Worswick will be charged with managing all three outlets with a focus on the hotel’s brasserie-style Shanghai Tavern restaurant.

“I’m thrilled to be working alongside Jason and the team at The Shanghai EDITION,” he says.

“I’ve long admired Jason’s work, not only in London, but across the globe and I’m extremely excited to be a part of the team from February.”

The Liverpool-born chef reached the semi-finals of BBC MasterChef: The Professionals in 2010 and was a regional finalist representing the North West on the Great British Menu in 2015.
