The Lowdown: inHouse
Sounds interesting. What is it?
It’s a global members’ network that connects restaurants and regulars, celebrating dining culture in the process. It was founded in the US by Benjy Leibowitz, the London-born former head maître d’ at Daniel Humm’s NoMad. Think of it as like being part of a members’ club but instead of one clubhouse, it’s across numerous restaurants.
Ah, so it’s an American thing then
Well yes, but also soon to be a thing over here as it is launching in London in January 2020.
OK, so now I get why we’re talking about it. Tell me more
You’ll be pleased to hear that the network has already signed up some of the capital’s best restaurants. The full list of opening London partners is (in alphabetical order): Barbary, Brat, Clipstone, The Clove Club, Cora Pearl, Darby’s, Davies and Brook, Emilia, Evelyn’s Table, Flor, Gymkhana, Hoppers, Ikoyi, J Sheekey, Kitty Fisher’s, Luca, Lyle’s, Noble Rot, The Palomar, Portland, Quality Chop House, Quo Vadis, Rochelle Canteen, Scott’s, Scully, St John, Two Lights and XU.
Brilliant. But I’ve been to many of those esteemed establishments already. What do I get that’s different?
Well, inHouse members benefit from their own bookings platform and have access to their own dedicated ‘member experience managers’ who can make bookings for you at partner restaurants, not just in London either but also in New York and San Francisco currently. They’ll be able to get you the same type of perks you would get as a regular diner or friend, even on your first trip there.
Perks you say...
Yep. These might include a certain table, extra dishes from the kitchen, things that might help you impress that special person or help seal that important deal. There are weekly emails to all members that include news round ups, interviews and features, review round ups and give members unique insight into the global hospitality scene. There’s also a variety of options, including dinners seated alongside leading sommeliers and chefs, tours of new restaurants, exclusive chef collaborations and specially curated parties.
I’m in
Steady on. You’ll have to hand over £1,200 a year for the privilege. If you are restaurant looking to become a partner, however, it’s free. Membership will soft-open this month by invitation from partner restaurants only. However inHouse is taking online applications at www.inhousenewyork.com for membership starting next year.
