Friday Five: the week's top news
- A 250-cover food hall with up to ten restaurant traders will open in the historic Shelter Hall on Brighton seafront next summer. It will be run by Sessions Market, a new company led by former Deliveroo managing director Dan Warne and restaurant industry veteran Graham Turner.
- The Noble Rot team have taken on the former Gay Hussar restaurant site in London's Soho for their second location. It will reopen as Noble Rot Soho in spring 2020.
- Marcel Khan is to leave his role as CEO of fledgling fried chicken chain Thunderbird after one year. He will hand the reins over to Paul Gilchrist, former retail director at Brakspear pubs, by the end of the year.
- Deliveroo has launched a click and collect feature it says will allow customers to avoid paying delivery fees or waiting in a virtual 'queue' at times of high demand. The service, name Pickup, is available in 13 cities and is expected to roll out across the UK within the next year.
- Elizabeth Haigh opens her long-awaited debut restaurant, Mei Mei, in Borough Market next week. We caught up with the chef to talk about her plans for the project.
