Slapfish's London location, which was first reported on by Hot Dinners, is self-described as a ‘modern seafood shack’ with a focus on serving sustainably-sourced fish.
The UK menu features a selection of dishes available in the US including lobster meat mixed with melted butter, mayonnaise and lemon and served in a brioche bun; fries topped with New England clam chowder and bacon; and an ‘ultimate’ fish taco topped with cabbage, pickled onion and house sauce.
Slapfish was founded by American chef Andrew Gruel in 2011 as a food truck operating in Los Angeles and Orange County with a menu of just three items,
In 2012 Gruel opened Slapfish’s first bricks and mortar restaurant in Huntington Beach, California, and has since expand the business across the country.
It now operates more than 20 sites across 11 US states.
The opening marks the arrival of yet another high-profile US brand looking to corner a part of the UK market.
Other US chains to recently launch in London include The Halal Guys, Eggslut and Wahlburgers, all of which have voiced intentions to roll out across the country.
Meanwhile, earlier this week, controversial US fried chicken chain Chick-fil-A opened its first UK restaurant in Reading.
Look out for an in-depth analysis on the current cluster of US chains looking to make it big in the UK in next month’s issue of Restaurant magazine.
