The restaurant, located in Mayfair, was tipped to be demoted from its three-star rating following chef Mitsuhiro Araki’s return to Japan in Spring this year, leaving the restaurant in the hands of his number two chef Marty Lau. However, it was not expected to lose all of its stars in the current guide.
Other restaurants to lose their star rating in the newly-published guide include Benares and Galvin at Windows, both located in Mayfair; dim sum restaurant Yauatcha in Soho; Gidleigh Park in Chagford, Devon; Samphire in St Helier, Jersey; Paul Kitching’s Edinburgh restaurant 21212; and Bryan and Susan Webb’s Tyddyn Llan restaurant with rooms in Llandrillo.
The deletions were released following the launch of the new guide at a ceremony held tonight (7 October) at London’s exclusive private members club The Hurlingham Club.
Among the big winners of this year’s announcements were Anne Sophie Pic, whose restaurant La Dame de Pic at The Four Seasons was awarded two Michelin stars, The Dining Room at Whatley Manor, which was awarded a second Michelin star, and The Greenhouse in Dublin, which also picked up its second star.
London also became home to a new three-star restaurant, with Pierre Gagnaire’s The Lecture Room and Library at Sketch London picking up the maximum rating in the red book.
