Climbing eight places from last year, it marks the first-time Dante, which opened in 1915, has claimed the top spot.
It also earned the title of Best Bar in North America.
London’s Connaught Bar in Mayfair, which has hovered in the upper tier of the list for a number of years, climbed four places to 2nd position and was also named The Best Bar in Europe.
Argentinean bar Florería Atlántico rose 11 places to take third place and was also crowned The Best Bar in South America.
Ryan Chetiyawardana’s cocktail bar Dandelyan on London’s South Bank, which took the top spot in 2018, was absent from the 2019 list having subsequently closed soon last October.
Chetiyawardana ‘repurposed’ the site, relaunching it back in March as Lyaness, which has placed 39th in this year’s list.
The other London-based new entry is Mayfair cocktail bar Kwānt, which ranked 47th, while The Langham’s Artesian bar re-entered the list this year in 48th place.
In total bars from 26 cities spread across 21 countries have been honoured with a place on the list, which features 15 new entries and two re-entries.
The UK leads the top 50 list this year with 10 bars featured, while the US has seven.
The highest new entry is Peruvian bar Carnaval, which has entered the list in 13th position.
The Savoy’s American Bar dropped three places in this year’s list from 2nd to 5th, but claimed the Legend of the List accolade, which is awarded to a bar that has consistently performed well in the awards
Other London bars to make the top 50 list include Three Sheets in Dalston, Bethnal Green’s Coupette, and ‘sustainable’ Shoreditch cocktail bar Scout, which placed 16th, 23rd and 28th respectively.
Monica Berg, co-owner of Tayēr + Elementary, which entered this year’s longlist in 52nd place, was named the Altos Bartenders’ Bartender 2019.
