Thirty three restaurants have lost their Bib Gourmand rating in the Michelin Guide for Britain and Ireland 2020, Michelin has revealed.

Restaurants including popular neighbourhood spot Bastible in Dublin and The Barn, the more casual dining restaurant that is part of Mark Birchall’s Moor Hall, have been deleted from the list of Bib Gourmands, which was released today (4 October) by Michelin.

A number of restaurants were deleted following their closure, including Galvin Brasserie De Luxe in Edinburgh, Polpetto in London’s Soho, Bell’s Diner & Bar Rooms in Bristol and Picture in Fitzrovia and Marylebone.

A Bib Gourmand is awarded to restaurants deemed to be both good quality and good value by Michelin’s team of inspectors, with those listed having a menu that serves three courses for £28 or under

While losing a Bib Gourmand can be regarded as a negative for restaurants, is also opens the door for the same establishment to be promoted to having a Michelin star, with both Dublin’s Bastible and The Barn now tipped to be recognised further by the red book.

Michelin has awarded 22 new restaurants a Bib Gourmand in its Guide for Britain and Ireland 2020, with 132 restaurants in the guide now having a Big Gourmand, down from 143 last year.
