Several UK bars, including six from London, have made the longlist with Alex Kratena and Monica Berg’s Shoreditch-based Tayēr + Elementary (opened in partnership with TÁ TÁ Eatery founders and katsu sando pioneers Ana Gonçalves and Zijun Meng) being the longlist’s highest new entry in 52nd position.
Other prominent UK entries include Scarfes Bar at Holborn’s at The Rosewood Hotel, which debuts in the list in 55th position.
Oriole in Smithfield Market (17th in 2018) has dropped down the list to 64th this year, while Bethnal Green’s Satan’s Whiskers ranked 78th.
The only UK entry from outside London is Edinburgh’s Panda & Sons, which has dropped down the rankings to 77th after placing 61st in 2018.
The World’s 50 Best Bars will announce its new top 50 list for 2019 at a ceremony in London next week.
William Drew, group editor of The World’s 50 Best Bars, says this year’s longlist “really showcases the diversity and ever evolving quality of the world’s leading bars.”
