Wagamama founder Alan Yau is to open three new restaurants in London in 2020; two in Canary Wharf and one at the Westfield London shopping centre in Shepherd’s Bush.

Property development group Ballymore confirmed on its Instagram page that the hugely influential Hong Kong-born restaurateur, who also founded high-end Chinese restaurant group Hakkasan, is to open two sites at development Wardian London next summer.

Both restaurants will offer ‘Asian gastronomy with a twist’, with the larger of the two, Chyna, combining Cantonese and modern European cooking.

The 120-cover restaurant will have an ‘extensive’ waterside terrace area and, according to the Evening Standard, will include a water market from which guests can choose live seafood.

Yau will also be launching Japanese-inspired counter restaurant Yau Grilling next door to Chyna, which will be designed as an informal all-day operation with space for 45 covers.

The restaurant will feature an oyster bar alongside a grill menu that will include options of beef, lobster and king crab.

According to the Evening Standard, the third restaurant that Yau plans to open in the capital next year is a new location for his Turkish street food brand Yamabahçe.

Yamabahçe, which currently operates a site in Marylebone, features a menu that includes pides topped with either rib-eye beef; minced lamb; and spicy Turkish sausage.
