Brewer and pub operator Fuller's has invested c.£2m in upgrading The Chamberlain Hotel in the City of London, which is set to open at the end of the month.

Designed as a ‘progressive’ all-day dining and co-working space, the renovation includes the launch of a lounge and restaurant serving ‘a wide selection of food and drink’.

A new 130-cover basement cocktail bar, called The Chambers, will feature full-table service and also be available for private hire.

The project is the first major redevelopment at the 64-bedroom hotel property since Fuller’s first opened the venue almost 20 years ago.

“We wanted to challenge our traditional approach towards hospitality and offer an all-inclusive space which serves great food and innovative cocktails, whilst encouraging visitors to explore the rest of the venue,” says Fuller’s head of operations Mark Fulton.

“It’s the first time we have ever done something like this before and it’s also a significant investment for us, but we are confident it’s a positive change that reflects the needs of the modern consumer, seeking a fantastic dining and drinking experience.”

Fuller’s is not the only operator exploring the potential of introducing designated co-working spaces within its locations.

Earlier this year D&D London launched an app where users could book table space at selected restaurants including 100 Wardour St in Soho and Fiume in Battersea.

Last month Boxpark announced plans to launch a BoxOffice concept consisting two to four floors of co-working space above a street food and bar area.
